What are your daily responsibilities?
Manage In-Line Inspection program schedule, communicate updates with other teams, vendors, etc. Support project managers in organizing and carrying out inspectionn projects.
What were some projects you were involved in?
- Plan welding projects on pipes - Plan waste pick-up plan around Alberta - Prepare program schedule for upcoming years
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
Doing research on the company really helped, and since I asked for a project management position, people skill was really important. Extra-curricular and school projects that demonstrated leadership was my main sell point. The first cut in resume was based on grades, so it did matter.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
Communications, being able to communicate effectively is very important in this position. Excel, lots of scheduling and other tasks are performed in excel. Knowing hot keys will help a lot, and macro would become handy as well.
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
The company does not expect the students to know much technical wise. But the ability to learn fast and socialize.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
Yes, this position gave me lots of oppurtunities to network with a specturm of people, from my co-worker, to people from other departments and even vendors. This allowed me to expand my view on the career options offered in this field. It also improved my socializing skills. Lastly, Calgary is a pretty awesome city.
One fun fact about your job?
I get to go to lots of open bar parties, and get lots of free food..

Working in a new city can be very challenging, but make sure you attend as many social events as possible. Meet people, ask them to go get coffee, get out and explore the city. Don't hestiate to leave home and come to a new city, it's a great experience, and you won't regret it!
