Reporting, interfacing with project managers at site, dealing with financial data, updating/automating current processes
What were some projects you were involved in?
I wouldn't say there are any specific projects I'm working on - this position mostly involves running weekly/monthly reports. Some initiatives outside of the regular reporting process include: setting up the extranet, designing macros to automate existing processes, creating new reports/improving old ones
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
Strong points of my interview were my knowledge of the nuclear industry, professional attitude (very important in a consulting company), clarity & structure of responses. Yes, grades do matter in the screening process before the interview.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
VBA, Excel, SQL is good to know beforehand but you can always learn on the job. Effective communication & always asking questions when unsure is key, because this job requires constant communication with people at site.
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
Willingness to learn & a fresh set of ideas. AMEC NSS loves enthusiastic students who are always thinking of new & creative alternatives to existing processes. They expect you to take ownership of the work you produce and deal with the client in a professional manner - without them having to babysit you.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
Yes, I love my PEY experience. This position is at the head office located at 700 University (Queen's Park Station, above Tim Hortons), so it was no different from my usual commute. The people are friendly, and things get done quickly as the company needs to always be on top of things to beat the competition.
