What are your daily responsibilities?
Research and development.
What were some projects you were involved in?
Prototyping new products, scaling up new electroplating chemistries, revising existing plating procedures, quality assurance on manufactured products.
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
Grades mattered as far are receiving an interview. In the interview research experience and company knowledge were the most highlighted areas.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
Laboratory experience, materials science.
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
To be independent, self motivating and creative when problem solving.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
Yes and no. The research was interesting but the atmosphere was sometimes uncomfortable. Communication between various levels of management can be an issue. Overall the experience gave me a lot of insight and experience in industrial research which was of great value to me.
One fun fact about your job?
Your jeans will look like something out of a bad nineties music video from all the holes and chemical splashes. Yes, even if you wear a lab coat.

Other Comments
The plant is surprisingly well ventilated which keeps the chemical smells low, compared with your undergraduate laboratories. If you live downtown the commute is brutal, be warned.
