What are your daily responsibilities?
My daily responsibilities include communication with plant, communication with the cross-functional team, optimization design for existing packaging, creating and revising packaging specifications, attending and supervising plant trials, customer audits, updating and tracking productivity savings, and new packaging engineering.
What were some projects you were involved in?
Bits & Bites and Crispers Downsizing, Snacking Cracker Carton Lightgauging, Oreo and Ahoy! Franchise Cookie Packaging Optimization, Aldridge relocation Initiative, Corrugate Productivity
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
Grades definitely mattered. In the posting, they told us that there was a minimum grade requirement of 70% cumulative average. My strong points in the interview were highlighting my strengths and weaknesses and being honest and humble with my answers but at the same time demonstrating the confidence I have in my abilities. Another strong point was asking the Employer questions as well in return. The selling point I believe would be the use of examples where I have demonstrated excellence and diligence.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
Engineering Strategies and Practice components were extremely important. Process Design and Research experience was an asset as well for this position. Apart from all this, leadership, problem solving and communication skills were key.
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
They expected a proficiency in data collection and analysis, good communication and problem solving skills and professionalism from the student. They also expect students to pay careful attention to detail.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
I thoroughly enjoy my PEY as it challenges me everyday and has opened networking channels for the future.
One fun fact about your job?
I get a ton of free samples and I get the pleasure of saying that I work in a cookie factory.
