What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
-During my interview, I took my time to formulate my answers. I would ensure that the question was clear (I would write it down in a way I best understood, and I would also ask again just in case). I had used the STAR method (Situation Task Action Result). -I had prepared for the interview by grabbing typical behavioral questions and having a situation (from past experiences) to use as an answer. -I had questions prepared for the interview (I knew that OPG was planning on shutting down Pickering in 2018, and so I had asked what their plan in the future would be for OPG, and how they would meet consumer's demand for energy). -I don't think that grades mattered at all.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
-Calculus (I've had to use derivatives as well as integrals) -Project Management (Microsoft Visio to make a Gantt Chart style of drawing) -Separations Processes and Thermodynamics (the Tritium Removal Facility utilizes concepts of both) -Process design (helps understand the flowsheets to then understand the process of the Tritium Removal Facility) -Critical Thinking (finding alternative methods to solve a problem)
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
-They expect you to be able to learn on the fly and to pick things up quickly (you will be required to learn how to use many different programs exclusive to OPG) -They expect you to have a high degree of critical thinking, as there are many issues that come up that are a “first time”, and you are asked to solve them -They expect you to be able to support many different sections within the Tritium Removal Facility (Planning, Operations, Maintenance, and Technical)
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
I liked my overall PEY experience, as I was given quite a bit of technical work that utilized concepts that I had learned in class. However, some of the other tasks I was given were rather tedious and more project management oriented.
One fun fact about your job?
There are only 2 Tritium Removal Facilities in the world (1 in Ontario at OPG, and 1 in South Korea). You learn a lot of very unique things.

50000
