Participant Info

Sunwell Technologies Inc.
Process/Project Engineering Intern
Work Term
May 2014 - August 2015
What are your daily responsibilities?
Ice generator test setup, compiling and analysing test data in Excel, equipment sourcing, creating P&IDs
What were some projects you were involved in?
There's a fair balance between production and R&D projects. Production jobs are more repetitive involving similar procedures but R&D depends on the project entirely. Nevertheless, both types involve creating P&IDs for test setups, hands-on work (connecting hoses, fittings, wrench etc.), using data acquisition equipment for recording and analysing data.
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
Grades didn't matter much. Hands-on experience and troubleshooting experience helps.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
Paul's and Chris' laboratory courses, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics.
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
Mostly assisting the other engineers in sourcing equipment, performing tests, writing procedures and reports, and a fair amount of hands-on work.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
The experience is satisfying as it exposes one to various aspects of a project (budget, design, testing) and the people are friendly and welcoming.
One fun fact about your job?
Awesome $5 lunches everyday at the cafeteria!
