What are your daily responsibilities?
Visit stations across Ontario to update reference drawings and write operating manuals for spill containment systems afterwards. Also ensure the site is within compliance of any government approval issued to the site. Prepare Environmental Compliance Approval packages to submit to the Ministry of Environment (MOE) by reviewing engineering designs and looking up municipal information Procure consultant contracts for acoustic and air quality assessments
What were some projects you were involved in?
New transformer station construction. Station refurbishments. Dealing with noise complaints.
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
Interest in environment is crucial. It helped for me to be involved in many extra-curriculars (not typical in past students they hired). Grades didn't really matter.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
No courses relevant, unless you took something with environmental assessment/risk evaluations.
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
Not very much. Be ready to learn a lot of do things without much supervision.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
Yes. Great work location and people. Good learning experience in both environmental legislation/design as well as working in a corporate environment. However, work can get a little routine and boring. Not a position where you are constantly challenged with difficult problems.
One fun fact about your job?
You get to travel across Ontario!

Do not choose this job if you want lots of math and calculations or if you want to be constantly challenged. Having an interest in environment really helped me keep motivation in what could've been a boring work term.
