What are your daily responsibilities?
Monitoring production for potential problems, working with lead Continuous improvement technologist to root cause problems and solve any quality issues. A lot of testing to collect data.
What were some projects you were involved in?
Capital investment for piece of testing equipment. Long term problem solving of issue.
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
Asked for transcript but grades were not a major factor (my grades aren't great but I was still hired). Interview was with HR and Supervisor.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
Hands on mechanical skill was the largest asset to my position. As well a data management, using excel. Presentation skills and speaking ability were also an important asset.
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
Expectations were for me to learn and provide support to more senior workers. At times I felt as if I was an important part of the technical team.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
I really enjoy my PEY experience because the vision that this company has as well as the people I had a chance to work with. There are a great deal of chemical engineers (as well as engineers) all of which will provide sound advice and instruction. My direct supervisor and his supervisor were both excellent mentors and helped me grow as a professional and as an engineer.
One fun fact about your job?
Who knew plastic bags were so complicated!
