What are your daily responsibilities?
-Answering emails -Keeping track of hardware, tracking people down who borrowed hardware -Completing standard routine testing on graphics drivers, either new software features on current hardware or bring-up software for new hardware -Testing compatibility of software drivers across all windows OS including new pre-release versions of new windows OS -General PC assembly and troubleshooting -Filing detailed bug reports when issues are found, assisting developers to root cause issues -Regression analysis to determine code change check-ins that caused certain issues to occur
What were some projects you were involved in?
Our team tested every AMD graphics product before it went to QA, so in this position I likely tested any AMD graphics product released in this timeframe (up until the R9 290 series)
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
-Grades were not discussed in the interview(I am not sure whether or not they were a factor) -Interview focused on previous experience in my hobbies as a beta tester, and had me describe technical details of how I would assess a certain situation
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
-Being able to assemble and be comfortable with PC hardware, installing operating systems, drivers, software, etc. from previous personal experience
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
It was the first time they had put a student into the team (of about 6-8 people). I was treated as a member of the team as if I was a full employee, the fact that I was a student did not affect how I was treated, or the expectations. The workload was not too demanding however and was quite manageable.
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
Overall enjoyable. Lots of layoffs occurring during my placement so morale was low, but the company is doing a bit better now.
One fun fact about your job?
Free tea, coffee, hot chocolate!
