What are your daily responsibilities?
Sites (Other companies interested in our products) want to have a membrane filter set up and running. I am in charge of collecting all the information in a Programmable Logic Controller and a Black Box (mini computer) and displaying it in a readable fashion on a website for customers to see and track.
What were some projects you were involved in?
Companies such as: Heritage Point, Fortress Specialty Cellulose, Eureka Resources, etc.
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
I did two interviews. Part 1 was completing an employee screening test which involved questions similar to Separation Processes' exams. Part 2 was being asked behavioural questions and displaying confidence to get any work done.
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
Separation Processes, Process Dynamics and Control, Process Design
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
The company did not expect any technical knowledge out of me since all of the theory and calculations were handled by the full time employees. They taught me everything that I needed to know to get the work done. However, they expected me to be able to read a P&ID in order to find the temperature/pressure/flowrate controllers
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
Yes it was a great place to apply all knowledge about chem eng into the practices that the company taught. It was also a great experience learning about the difference between theory and industry
