- Product development and innovation (was able to get a patent) - Inventory database implementation project (managing a team) - Cost benefit analysis to justify capital expenditures - Preparing reports for Environment Canada - Product modelling - Process Optimization
What were strong points of your interview? Did grades matter?
- Grades did not matter. I was never asked for a transcript - Being proactive and asking for a plant tour - Being relaxed during the interview - Being able to describe complicated projects
Which skill sets/courses were most relevant to your position?
- Problem solving - VBA coding - Basic economic analysis skills - Basic mass balance skills
What did your company expect from you as a 2nd/3rd year co-op student?
- Extra pair of hands to help with projects - Not too many expectations
Did you like your overall PEY experience? Why or why not?
I liked my PEY experience because I was able to work in various departments (business, marketing, production, maintenance and development). My co-workers were also great. I just wish it would have been more challenging.
One fun fact about your job?
It's cool to walk into a store, find a product you worked on and know exactly how it was made

The position is generally geared towards MIE but because most of the managers are Chem Engs, they love to hire us. The job title is deliberately open ended because they let you find your strengths and work on the projects that you want.
